Mahi toi - Sketching

It's been a wet and rainy week. One thing we love to do is Mahi Toi. We have been learning some sketching techniques - loud/soft pencil. Hatching and cross hatching to show shading and detail. This week after a very wet lunch we had some relaxing time sketching the skeleton of a deer! Do you know any sketching techniques? Could you find something at home to sketch and send to us for us to have a look at?

What's the buzz?

A few weeks ago Room 17 got a Science Box. It was called "What's the buzz?". We learnt all about bees. In this box there were many different experiments. For one of them we were learning about how the vibrations from a bee helps them to collect pollen. We used a balloon, cup and tuning fork.. we also had "pollen" aka flour.

It wasn't just exciting it was very fun as well!

We used a magnifying glass and tweezers to VERY carefully observe them. There were three different types of bees. The queen bee, the male (drone) bee and the worker bee. We were amazed by how different they were! It was freakishly amazing!

We learnt about the lifespan of a bee also.

We would rate this pretty highly as we learnt so much about these wonderful creatures.
